This photograph from the early 1940s was taken in Delanco, NJ. Note that the baby seat, designed just to hang on a car seat, can be hung on the window outside the car. The doll is on the nice-sized running board. View full size.
That doll looks like it was previously owned by Hannibal Lecter. Look at the face! Seeing this reminds me of the reason all my dolls faced the wall at night. This was taken in the early 40's and my little brother had the same type of "safety seat" in 1969. How did we ever make it to adulthood?
