New York, May 1943. "Policeman no. 19687. William Alexander Frazier, born 1916 in Harlem." Medium format nitrate negative by Gordon Parks for the Office of War Information. View full size.
Amazing image; truly iconic of his profession, his time, his pride.
I was taken aback when my aunt sent me an online pictoral tribute to our president-elect, chronicling major events and people in black history. It included a photo of my grandfather taken by the acclaimed photographer Gordon Parks. My grandfather's picture is also displayed in the Library of Congress. I'm so happy!!
Love how the camera catches the sparkle of his lapel pin!
