An outside chimney helped prevent the spread of fire to the interior of the building. A common practice to contain a chimney fire was to pull it down!
Much is in need of repair or replacement here, or the usual paint, but the fence is solid and recent.
So remote that even Google Streetview didn't get there yet.

The stand-alone chimney reminds me of very early Colonial homes.
