Quite a few of those young gentlemen seem to be wearing pants they are supposed to grow into.
Well, definitely beats wearing hand-me-downs.
I wonder to what extent kids of those days were insulated from world events? Did they sense that something was about to happen that would take many of their older siblings away, never to return?
And I remember the self imposed noninvolvement with the girls, some of whom are huddling together staring at the boys from the background afar. As soon as we were not under the control of the teaching staff we drew apart from them. When cruelly forced to go to dances or to be taught to dance in the gym, we clung to the surrounding walls desperate to avoid eye contact with the girls who were wisely prompted to invite us to dance as we sure as heck would not do anything so suicidal as signal any interest - wow we had a lot more to learn than our ABC's.
