August 1942. "Ella Watson, a charwoman employed by the government in Washington, D.C." Photograph by Gordon Parks, who took dozens of pictures of Mrs. Watson in one of his first assignments for the FSA. View full size.
This is a very nice portrait. Good to see "my people" in a photograph outside of a plantation or some other hard-times situation! Altho I do love the historic, i would like to see that everything historic about Blacks does not depict the world at its lowest. I LOVE SHORPY!
Thank you for introducing me to Ella Watson and the backstory to Gordon Parks' photos of her.
