This old beauty was photographed on Anscochrome in 1959 at Virginia City, Nevada. It's hard to tell if it was abandoned when this photo was taken. View full size.

This is my mom, Jan, while on vacation in Florida, December 1967, poolside at a now-defunct motel on Gulf Boulevard in St. Pete Beach. We made Florida a regular vacation destination until we moved here in the late '70s. Mom's in front of a classic Coke machine here, but at the moment, apparently her preference was for refreshment of a more grown-up nature. View full size.

My grandfather's 1955 Packard Clipper. Grandpa was a pastor and often traveled in the early days of his ministry. After driving thousands of miles and saving money, he purchased his first (and only, that I know of) brand-new car. This was taken on one of his road trips at a motel around 1956. View full size.
Bold colorsI love the bold colors that cars in the 1950s had. Today's car are boring with their drab monotonous earth-tone colors.

This was taken during the weekend of the 1963 Monterey Folk Festival at Monterey, California, in a motel room. The performer is Stewart Clay (stage name) who performed at various venues in Aspen, Colorado, during the prior winter when I was a ski bum there. The adoring young women are, sadly, unknown to me. Stewart, are you out there? Scanned Plus-X film from a Leica IIIf. View full size

Found another stack of vacation pics being thrown out. This is on Prince Edward Island at the Dutch Motel (according to the writing on the back). Not sure if this was a local hunter's trophy, or our vacationers were trying to bring these back as a prize to bring back home. View full size.

1969, on the road to my father's roots in a 1964 Chevelle wagon, the beginning of this trip. This was Cactus Pete's Motel, as I recall, in Jackpot, Nevada. We drove into Wyoming and Nebraska so my middle-aged dad could say hello and bye to various relatives. Good times! View full size.

One of the same women who previously was seen posing in slacks and pedal pusher shorts, with a car and her sister, puts on a dress to pose with her mother in front of a California ghost town motel. From a collection of photos I found in a Simi Valley, California antique store. View full size.

Long before there was a Honey Boo Boo in front of the camera, this little lady was in front of a lens. My suspicion is the buildings behind her are either the cabins of a resort, or a roadside motel that she and her family stayed at, and the photo was taken as a souvenir of that vacation. I bought it from an antique store in Simi Valley, California because of the great truck and car behind Miss Missing Teeth. View full size.
