WHAT WE LIKE / WANT / NEED:

  • Glass plate negatives.
  • Red-border Kodachrome slides showing the kids, clothes, families, stores, cars, houses, streetscapes, Christmases, bar mitzvahs, birthdays, transportation, industry, recreation, etc. of mid-century (1940s-1960s) America.
  • 1950s gas station or car dealership photos!
  • Large-format (usually 4x5) negatives or transparencies from newspaper morgues, publicity departments or ad-agency archives.
  • WHAT NOT TO SEND:

  • Photos taken after the 1970s.
  • Photos of landscapes, gardens, flowers, sunsets, etc.
  • Professionally taken slide sets from gift shops or museums.
  • MASSIVE QUANTITIES of slides. Your webmaster Dave, alas, lacks the patience, desire and eyesight required to spend hours, days or weeks looking at hundreds or thousands of slides. The best donations arrive in a standard-size envelope or small box. That said, we appreciate your generosity!
  • PLEASE NOTE: By donating slides or negatives, you agree to relinquish any and all rights to their use or sale; there is no guarantee they will appear on Shorpy; you will not get them back. And finally, thank you!
